 of thy frende . 340 And after this than shal ye kepe yow from  
 alle strange folkes and fro lyers & haue alway in suspect  
 her companye . 341 For Peter Alfons saith / Ne take no com  
 pa nye by the waye of strange men / but yf hit so be that thou  
 haue knowen hem before tyme / 342 and yf so be that ye haue not  
 knowen hym / And wil nedes falle in thy companye perauen  
 ture withoute thyn assente / 343 enquere than as subtilly as þu  
 canst or maist of his conuersation & of his lyf before . and  
 fayne thy waye and saye that thou wilt go theder as thou  
 wolt not goo / 344 & yf he bere a spere hold the on the right syde  
 And yf he bere a swerd holde the lyfte syde / 345 & after thus  
 than shul ye kepe you wisely from all suche maner peple as  
 I haue said before & hem & her counceill eschewe . 346 And after  
 this than shal ye kppe you in suche maner 347 that for ony pre-  
 sumpcōn of your strengthe / that ye ne dispyse ne attempte  
 not the might of your aduersarye / and thus beware that ye  
 lette not the keping of your persone for ony psumpcion 348 For  
 euery wise man dredeth his enemye . 349 And Salamon saith  
 wilful is he that of no thing hath drede 350 For certes he that  
 thorugh þe hardynes of his herte or of hym self hath to grete  
 psumpcion / hym shal euyl betyde / 351 than shal ye euermore coun-  
 trewayte embusshementis in special . 352 For Seneke saith the  
 wise man that dredeth harmes / escheweth harmes / 353 ne he fal  
 leth in no peryll that peryll escheweth . 354 And al be hyt so  
 that thou seme that thou be in syker place / yet shalt thou do  
 alleway diligence in kepinge of thy persone / 355 not only from  
 thy grettest ennemyes but from the leste enemye / . 357 Ouyde  
 sayth / That the lytyll wesyll wole sle a grete bole and  
 the grete herte / 358 And the book sayth / That a lytyl thorn
