 your wise & olde counceillours saide that ye ne ought not so  
 denly ne hastely to proceden in this nede / 374 but that ye oughten  
 to purueye & apparaillen in this caas with grete diligence  
 and grete deliberation 375 trewly I trowe they saiden right wi  
 sely and right soth . 376 For Tullius saith In euery nede er  
 thou begynne / yet appareylle the with grete diligence / 377 Than  
 sith than in vengeance takyng in warre in batayll and in  
 warnstoryng 378 er thou begynne I rede that thou appareylle þe  
 therto and doo hit with grete deliberation . 379 For Tullius  
 sayth that longe apparayllyng before the batayll maketh  
 short victorye 380 And Cassiodre saith / that the garison is þe  
 strenger whan hit is longe tyme aduysed . 381 But now late  
 vs speke of the counceyll that was accorded be your neygh-  
 bours suche as don yow reuerence withouten loue / 382 your olde  
 enemyes reconsiled / your flaterers 383 that counceylle yow cer-  
 teyn thinges openly / and pryuely counceylle yow the con-  
 trary . 384 The yong folk that counceylle you to avenge you  
 and make warre anon . 385 Certes syre as I haue said before  
 ye haue gretly erryd to haue cleped suche maner of folk to  
 your counceyll / 386 whiche counceyllours ben ynough repreuyd  
 afore said by reson / 387 But natheles late vs now descende to  
 the specyall / ye shal first procede after the doctryne of Tul  
 lius . 388 Certes the trouth of thys matere or of thys coun-  
 ceyll nedeth not dyligently tenquyre . 389 For it is wist well  
 whyche they be that haue don to yow thys trespaas and  
 vilonye 390 and how many trespassours / and in what maner  
 that they haue doo to yow alle this wronge & alle this vilo  
 nye 391 And after this shal ye examyne the second condicōn  
 Whiche that the same Tullius addeth in this same mater .
