 ouercometh an euyl maner that repenteth hym of his vic  
 torye / 897 Wherfore I praye you lete mercy be in your herte / 898 to  
 theffect and to thentente that god almyghty haue mercy  
 on yow in his laste Iugement . 899 For seynt Iames saith in  
 his epistlis / Iugement withoute mercy shal be do to hym  
 that hath no mercy on an other wight .  
900 WHan Mellebe had herd the grete skylles and resons  
 of dame Prudence and her wise Informations and  
 techinges 901 his herte began tenclyne to the will of his wyf  
 Consideryng her grete entente 902 conformed hym anon and  
 assented to worke after her counceyll / 903 And thanked god  
 of whom procedeth alle goodnes and vertue / that hym hath  
 sente a wyf of so grete discrescion . 904 And whan the day cam  
 that his aduersaryes shold appere in his presence 905 He spack  
 to hem ful goodly and sayde in this wise / 906 Al be hit so that  
 of your pryde and presumption and hie foly of your negli  
 gence and vnconnyng 907 ye haue mysborn you and trespas  
 syd vnto me / 908 yet for as mykyll as I se your grete humylite  
 909 and that ye be sory and repentaunte of your gyltes 910 hit  
 constreyneth me to do you grace and mercy / 911 Wherfore I  
 resseyue you to my grace 912 and foryeue you vterly alle the  
 offencys Iniuryes and wronges that ye haue don ayenst me  
 913 to this effecte & to this ende that god of his endeles mercy  
 914 will at the day of my dyynge forgyue me my gyltes / that  
 I haue trespassed to hym in this world / 915 For doubteles yf  
 we be sory and repentant for our synnes and gyltes / the  
 sight of our lord god 916 is so fre & so mercyable 917 that he wil  
 forgieue vs our gyltes 918 and brynge vs to the blysse that
