98 And withyn the hertes of folk shal be the bityng consci | |||
ence / and withoute forth shal his werkes accuse hym . | |||
99 Thenne shal the wrecchid sowle fle to hyde hym But certes | |||
he may not hyde hym he must come forth and shewe hym | |||
100 For certes as saith saint Iherome / the erthe shal caste him | |||
out of hym and the see also and the Eyer also that shal | |||
be ful of thunder clappis and lightnyng / 101 Now sothly | |||
who so wil remembre hym of these thynges I gesse that his | |||
synnes shal not torne hym to delite but to grete sorow for | |||
drede of the peyne of helle / 102 And therfore saith Iob to god | |||
Suffre lord that I may a whyle bewayle and bewepe or I | |||
go retornyng to the derk erthe and coueryd with the derke- | |||
nes / 103 the londe of miserye and of derknes where as is sha- | |||
dow of deth where as ther is none other ordenance but grisly | |||
drede that euer shal laste / 104 Lo here may ye see that Iob prayde | |||
respyte a whyle to bewepe & wayle his trespaas / For sothly | |||
one day to respyte is better than al the tresour of this world | |||
105 And for as muche as a man may acquyte hym self by fore | |||
god by penitence in this world and not by tresour / Ther | |||
fore shold he pray to god to yeue hym respyte a whyle to be | |||
wepen & bewaylen his trespaas / 106 For certes alle the sorow | |||
that a man myght make fro the begynnyng of the world | |||
nys but a lityl thyng atte regarde of the sorow of helle / . | |||
107 The cause why that Iob chepeth the lond of derknes / 108 vn- | |||
derstondeth that he clepeth hit londe or erthe / for it is stable | |||
and neuer shal faylle derkenes / For he that is in helle hath | |||
defaute of lyght naturel / . 109 For certes the derk lyght that | |||
shal come out of the fyre that euer shall brenne shal torne | |||
hem al to peyne that be in helle / For it shewith hym all the | |||
