 In halle sat this Ianuary and may  
 As fresh as is the bright someris day  
 And so be fyl that this good man  
 Remembrith hym vpon this damyan  
And sayde saynte mary how may this be  
 That Damyan entendith not to me  
 Is he ay sik or how may this betyde  
 His squiere whiche that stood hym besyde  
 Excusid hym be cause of his siknesse  
Whiche lettith hym to do his besinesse  
 Non other cause myghte make hym care  
 That me forthinkith quod this Ianuare  
 He is a gentil squyer be my trouthe  
 Yf that he deyde it were harm and routhe  
He is wyse discret honest and secre  
 As ony man I woot of his degre  
 And therto manly and seruysable  
 And forto be a thrifty man right abyl  
 But aftir mete as sone as euer I may  
I wyl my self visite hym and may  
 To do hym al the confort that I can  
 And for that word hym blissid euery man  
 That of his bounte and of his gentilnesse  
 He wolde so comforte hym in siknesse  
His squier for it was a gentil dede  
 Dame quod this Ianuary take good hede  
 That aftir mete ye with youre women alle  
 When ye haue be in chamber out of this hall  
 That alle ye go to se this damyan
